New LOC website portal now live
18 February 2020
LOC-Online.co.uk has now replaced LOC-NET.org.uk as the portal for users to find LOC websites around the country. As part of the project, a new website design and hosting service is now available for LOCs to update their online presence.
On the LOC-Online portal, LOC websites are organised by regions which mirror the new NHS regions and LOCSU Optical Lead areas of responsibility. Users then click through to their selected website.
The new LOC website design was developed following initial consultation workshops involving several LOCs. Cheshire LOC and Derbyshire LOC were then involved in the development of the detailed designs. The site is built using the easy to use WordPress CMS which is widely used worldwide and is responsive, meaning the sites automatically adapt for viewing on different devices.
The LOC site design includes a homepage with specific LOC image and News feed and also integrates a LOCSU News feed. LOCs can choose from 15 different accent colours to co-ordinate with their logo colour, to appear as a frame around the site pages and on action blocks/icons across the site. The main menu offers flexibility to accommodate different LOC requirements and Members area functionality is available for confidential information and documents if required.
Support will be available from LOCSU to assist LOCs in creating, populating and maintaining a new website using the new design and hosting.
Both Cheshire LOC and Derbyshire LOC are pleased with their new websites. Sandie McBennett from Cheshire LOC said “I love it! Can’t wait until it’s live. It really is a massive improvement on the last site”
This design and hosting service is included within the LOCSU levy and is available now to all LOCs. LOCSU are also offering support towards purchasing a specific domain name and G-Suite email services during the 2020/21 financial year.
Richard Whittington, LOCSU COO said “We are delighted that this long-awaiting development is now ready to roll-out to all LOCs who wish to participate. We would like to thank Cheshire LOC and Derbyshire LOC for their involvement in the first wave of activity, and look forward to supporting LOCs to create their new websites”.
If LOCs wish to find out more, or start to plan to create a website, please email comms@locsu.co.uk.
