Appointment of the New CVD Case Finding Team at LOCSU
2 July 2025
We are delighted to announce the appointment of the new CVD Case Finding Team at LOCSU, who will be supporting the ongoing pilot programs across England. This initiative is part of a nationally funded effort to enhance early detection of cardiovascular disease in optometric settings.
Please join us in welcoming the team:
Jen Shutt
LOC CVD Project Support & Coordinator (2 days/week)
jshutt@locsu.co.uk
Tony Wing
LOC CVD Delivery Champion (1 day/week)
twing@locsu.co.uk
Stephanie Cairns
LOC CVD Delivery Champion (1 day/week)
scairns@locsu.co.uk
This team will work closely with Local Optical Committees (LOCs) and service providers engaged in the pilots, offering direct support and gathering valuable insights to help shape a national blueprint for future service delivery. They will also collaborate with the Southwest Health Innovation Team to ensure alignment and effective information sharing across regions.
The CVD Case Finding Pilot Program is funded by NHS England, with LOCSU commissioned to support its implementation, drive engagement within the optical sector, and help develop national guidance based on local experiences.
We’re also pleased to share that the team will lead a Bitesize webinar on 17 July at 7pm, focusing on cardiovascular disease and the role of optometry in case finding and prevention. During the session, they will provide an overview of the current pilot projects under the NHS England dental and optometry CVD initiative and share insights from early implementation at pilot sites.
