10 Year Health Plan for England Launched
4 July 2025
The government’s 10 Year Health Plan for England has now launched:
Fit for the Future: 10 Year Health Plan for England
Outlining the plan to create a new model of care which is fit for the future, the 10 Year Health Plan considers the importance of bringing care into local communities and creating a neighbourhood health service.
Zoe Richmond, Clinical Director at LOCSU, said: “We welcome the new plan for the NHS and the government’s continued commitment to the 3 shifts. The aim of the new neighbourhood health service to provide ‘continuous, accessible and integrated care’ delivers significant opportunity for primary care optometry who are already well placed to support the NHS to deliver care ‘as locally as it can’, as set out in the report. LOCs across England have a proven track record of delivering enhanced eye care in the community, and the 10-year plan presents a new opportunity to scale up the local pockets of excellence.
“There’s a lot in the plan that will empower patients and practitioners, and I’d urge local leaders with LOCs to take some time to read the report.”
A Focus-on the NHS 10-year Health plan for England will be developed and made available to LOCs in the coming weeks.
