Candidates Chosen for 2023 Leadership Skills Programme
17 January 2023
LOCSU is pleased to announce the 11 candidates selected to embark on the WOPEC Leadership Skills module for Optical Professionals course which starts in March 2023.
Every year since its inception in 2012, LOCSU sponsors around 10 places on this 20-credit postgraduate module, part of WOPEC’s MSc programme at Cardiff University which is designed to enable the practising optical professional to become an effective leader at local and national level within the optical sector.
The standard of applications was extremely high again this year, with the candidates eager to improve their leadership skills and gain the formal recognition that this course affords in the sector.
Simone Mason, LOCSU’s Digital Learning Support Officer said:
“During the interview process candidates were keen to express how they want to develop and grow their skills not only for themselves, but for their LOC and even for wider sector roles.”
Therefore, we can reveal the successful candidates and their respective LOCs are: Mona Thacker (Avon LOC), Danielle Ellis (Barnet, Enfield, Camden & Haringey LOC), Rachel Cooper (Berkshire LOC), Uzma Qazi (Buckinghamshire LOC), Pretty Basra (Doncaster & Bassetlaw LOC), Peter Greedy (Gloucester LOC), Chloe Lloyd Chapman (Greater Manchester East LOC), Edward Ovenden (Lancashire & Morecambe Bay LOC), Millie Fellows (Oxfordshire LOC), Salma Ali (Solihull LOC) and Sofia Fazal (Wolverhampton LOC).
This leadership module enables each ‘student’ to gain a deep understanding of who they are and how to maximise their potential to lead more confidently for the challenges that lie ahead for the sector.
The alumni from the last decade have provided a high calibre of fine sector leaders who strive to be consistent with the vision, values, and strategies that LOCSU promotes.
It’s not too soon to start thinking about the 2024 leadership cohort and whether you’d benefit from this personal and professional development course. If you’re an existing LOC member and you’d like more details, please email info@locsu.co.uk or visit our website here.
