Cataract Awareness Month Spotlight

1 July 2025

In recognition of Cataract Awareness Month (June 2025), LOCSU has undertaken a focused review of literature exploring the commissioning, delivery, and outcomes of cataract services. This review aims to support LOCs and system partners by identifying case studies, evaluations, and research that demonstrate the benefits of integrated cataract care pathways within primary care.

The selected literature offers insights into referral refinement, integrated models of care, patient outcomes, and system efficiencies. Each article was reviewed and summarised, highlighting key findings and lessons to inform pathway development and service improvement.

The Cataract Literature Review is available in the LOCSU Information Library (you’ll need to log into the members’ area to access) and is intended to support LOC discussions with commissioners and stakeholders.
