LOCSU Supports Glaucoma Awareness Week

9 July 2021

This year’s Glaucoma Awareness Week, coordinated by Glaucoma UK, took place at the start of the month.

This year’s theme focussed on glaucoma being hereditary and the importance of loved ones in the lives of patients with the disease.

LOCSU supported the week through our social media channels including a reminder of our integrated service pathway.

Zoe Richmond, Interim Clinical Director, said:

“PrimaryCare optometry will play a key role in transforming glaucoma care over the coming years. Referral filtering & refinement services are well established with many systems turning to Optometrists to support long term monitoring management working integrated with the HES”

Over 700,000 people in the UK are living with glaucoma, and their close blood relatives are four times more likely to develop the disease.

Glaucoma UK said the idea of the campaign was to urge patients to start the conversation with relatives about the importance of regular eye tests.

Thank you to everyone who supported the campaign.
