Meet the Team – Ashley Stone

13 May 2026

With a degree in Sports Journalism, Ashley Stone, one of LOCSU’s newest team members, has stepped up to the plate.

Ash first joined the LOCSU team in November 2025 on a temporary basis as additional communications support and, in April 2026, joined permanently as LOC Coordinator – Communications.

“My first day was the Member’s Development Day – it was daunting, but I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction the world of LOCs and LOCSU.”

Ashley graduated with a First-Class degree in Sports Journalism from Teesside University in 2025. He has a strong interest in social media, graphic design and journalism and, prior to joining LOCSU, volunteered for four years at a non-league football club, where he oversaw the social media and marketing activity.

“I also hosted a Student Radio show at Teesside University and provided a few reports here and there to a station local to Newcastle,” Ash said.

“It’s certainly a change, going from sport to optometry, but the welcome I have received from the community of LOCs, and the team here at LOCSU has been incredible. I want to help to make a difference, and I really feel I can do that here.

Outside of work, Ash is a keen sports fan and enjoys reading, fashion, writing and travelling.

I have a small, tight-knit family consisting of my parents, younger brother and my dog, Elsa, who’s a 12-year-old English springer spaniel. We live by the sea in Saltburn, near Middlesbrough.

I support Middlesbrough Football Club – begrudgingly – love watching Formula One, and spend lots of time walking and running outside, whether at home, or at my family’s caravan in Northumberland, near Bamburgh.”

Welcome to the team, Ash!
