National Eye Health Week 2025: 22-28 September

23 September 2025

National Eye Health Week (NEHW) aims to raise the profile of optics by encouraging the public to be ‘eye aware’. It uses a series of daily themes inspiring greater take up of routine sight tests and highlighting that lifestyle can play a role in preventing avoidable sight loss.

This year, a different theme will take place each day of the awareness week, including:

  • 22 September: Primary eye care services
  • 23 September: Children’s eye health
  • 24 September: Eyes at work
  • 25 September: Live well to see well
  • 26 September: Self care Fr-eye-day
  • 27 September: Sports vision
  • 28 September: Ageing eyes

To mark the first day of the week, Danielle Ellis, Advancement Lead at LOCSU, recorded a short video on the recently updated glaucoma pathways.

Janice Foster, Chief Executive at LOCSU, said: “National Eye Health Week is an incredibly important week to promote healthy lifestyle choices and raise awareness of the importance of eye health.

“With the NHS 10 Year Plan aiming to move more care into the community, National Eye Health Week is an excellent opportunity to highlight the hugely important role that primary eye care professionals play in supporting the public to look after their health. A key example are the recently updated glaucoma pathways, which reflect the NHS 10 Year Plan and have been updated to ensure that LOCSU pathways are ‘fit for the future’ and assist LOCs in holding local commissioning conversations and in the delivery of the new NHS 10 year plan objectives.

“LOCSU always encourage LOCs to get involved with NEHW – it’s the perfect opportunity to promote the great work undertaken by passionate professionals to make a difference to local people.”
