NHS Budget Increase – Good News for Primary Care

13 June 2025

Government Spending Review 2025

The Government Spending Review 2025 published on Wednesday 11 June promises an annual 3% increase to NHS funding (after adjusting for inflation), this equates to an extra £29 billion. This funding is to support delivery of the 10-yr Health Plan that will be published later this Summer – early indications about the priorities in the plan are good for primary care with the government already committing to shifting the balance of care towards prevention and early intervention in the community.

The sector bodies for eye care are lobbying government at this key time to ensure the sector receives due consideration in the plan and is able to maximise its contribution to the nation’s health over the next decade. As the key national healthcare policy developments are announced LOCSU will continue to brief LOCs on the opportunities they present for local services and will continue to support LOCs to take these opportunities forward.
