OFNC Statement: CPD Payment in England for 2025/26 – Update

17 July 2026

Support for CPD is part of GOS fees and grants negotiations with DHSC (previously NHS England).

No proposals have been made to change CPD arrangements. However, the arrangements for 2025/26 remain subject to ministerial decision, as part of the current negotiations.

Dr Peter Hampson, OFNC Chair said: “Negotiations are taking longer this year for a number of reasons, but both DHSC and OFNC recognise the importance of CPD support for the sector and will provide an update as soon as negotiations have concluded.”

Note for Editors

The Optometric Fees Negotiating Committee (OFNC) is the national negotiating body for eye care in England with the Westminster Parliament, the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England. It comprises the leaders of the UK representative bodies: ABDO, AOP, FODO and BMA (for OMPs) and works in partnerships with the College of Optometrists.
