A new report highlights the significant benefits of fully utilising optometrists’ skills in community settings and advocates for the NHS to invest in primary eye care to reduce waiting lists, treatment delays, and cost pressures in secondary care.

Published by RNIB with analysis from PA Consulting, the report outlines other evidence-based recommendations for improving efficiency and patient outcomes across the system. Such as demonstrating the cost-saving potential of granting NHS email access to primary eye care staff-a simple yet effective measure that could save the NHS up to £20 million annually.
