We’re offering you the opportunity to become the next Chief Executive of LOCSU, the Local Optical Committee Support Unit, which offers support services for Local Optical Committees across the country, enhancing eye care services through collaboration and expertise.

LOCSU Job Advert

Our next Chief Executive will drive our strategy to ensure all LOCs are appropriately supported to fulfil their local NHS functions effectively; will influence NHS planning and strategic investment; and will support local eye care transformation particularly at Integrated Care System and Primary Care Network level.

Working closely with our new Chair and Board of Directors, you will ensure LOCSU is a thriving organisation, overseeing effective governance of its staff and resources, applying rigorous risk management and ensuring its robust financial health. Your visionary leadership will ensure the LOCs continue to flourish amidst the challenges and opportunities of a changing health landscape.

Whilst previous experience at Chief Executive level is not essential, we are looking for someone with a strong track record in leading and delivering successful projects, ideally within the healthcare sector. You will have strong management experience and a deep understanding of the NHS and its commissioning and contracting practices. Ideally, you will also have experience of working with clinical professionals and regional groups.

You do not need to be a clinician to be successful in this role, but a basic understanding of the eyecare landscape is advantageous. A commitment to understanding and serving the interests of LOCSU members and levy payers is essential.

A highly influential and strategic thinker, your excellent relationship-building and networking capabilities will ensure you identify new opportunities for LOCs and their associated Primary Eye Care companies and drive forward initiatives that support the aims of LOCSU and further develop the  opportunities for primary eye care clinicians and businesses.

The role requires a high degree of tact, diplomacy and emotional intelligence, as well as resilience and flexibility. The Chief Executive will work with a multitude of stakeholders, and inspire directors, staff and an entire profession from diverse backgrounds.

The role is full-time. All staff are working in a hybrid fashion with some attendance at the London head office. The Chief Executive role is flexible in location and regular travel throughout England will be required.

LOCSU is the Local Optical Committee Support Unit, supporting Local Optical Committees (LOCs) in England across a range of activities relating to primary eye care. Our work includes policy work and lobbying, pathway development, commissioning support, governance and compliance support, communication and training.

Optometrists, dispensing and contact lens opticians are autonomous self-reliant healthcare specialists at the frontline of eyecare – often referred to as the GPs of the eye. They do more than care for a person’s eyes to prevent avoidable blindness; they improve a person’s quality of life.
