Wakefield LOC Delivers CPD Peer Discussion
31 August 2022
LOCSU has recently produced a guidance document for LOCs who are interested in becoming a continuing professional development (CPD) provisional provider.
The guidance is to assist LOCs in developing and delivering CPD, as well as understanding the requirements of the CPD scheme.
A few weeks ago, LOCSU optical lead Bobby Fida held a virtual session with Wakefield LOC and she told us a little bit about how it went: “Wakefield LOC is a provisional provider so we requested the CPD from WOPEC and three cases on extended primary care services were provided.”
Bobby says they ran the session using the WOPEC planning document and delivered it via the LOC’s paid for ZOOM platform. She said: “We used our treasurer to handle the tech side and he split the attendees into smaller virtual rooms and didn’t facilitate a session himself in case he was needed to sort out any problems. But we didn’t have any, it ran really well!”
Bobby was pleased with the mix of participants: “In the communications leading up to the virtual session it was made clear it was about extended services and those not involved in delivering these services may not find it useful, but it was pleasing to see dispensing opticians attend and take part.”
Nicola Ford is secretary of Wakefield LOC and was a facilitator on the night: “We had 2 groups of 8 and a group of 7. What I’m not sure of is how many were from Wakefield LOC area as there were a few unfamiliar names. But some of these came from a social media push – which was great. Everyone in the group participated well and they all said they had enjoyed it at the end.”
Caroline Auckland-Shone, Chair of Wakefield LOC, added: “There was good interaction in our group. I felt like the cases had a lot of content to discuss, which is good to keep the discussion going.”
LOCSU is currently a provisional provider with the GOC so any LOC who wishes to utilise our CPD resources or account please contact info@locsu.co.uk for further details.
