Does your LOC want to deliver a Low Vision CPD Peer Review Event?
A part of LOCSU’s role is to support Local Optical Committees (LOCs) to develop and deliver accredited CPD events.
Provider-led Peer Review Events
In 2023, we arranged several peer review events comprising of three clinical cases from primary eye care practice. Each case featured aspects of LOCSU Clinical Pathways, such as Low Vision, Minor Eye Condition and Glaucoma Referral Filtering and Monitoring. These are still available for those LOCs who have not yet ran a peer review event.
With the recent launch of the RNIB new adult low vision service quality framework, it feels timely to bring to your attention a set of low vision cases which can be delivered via LOCSU to Local Optical Committees (LOCs) in England. These can be delivered in-person or virtually and are suitable for Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians. The cases are approved for 3 interactive provider-led peer review CPD points.
Simone Mason, LOCSU Digital Learning Support Officer, who supports LOCs with their CPD activities, said: “This low vision peer review set will support LOCs to discuss in small groups three case studies, all relating to patients with low vision. In each group – practitioners will discuss each clinical case and identify the appropriate examinations, investigations and management for each patient; the most appropriate referral pathways for each patient and possible outcome and the importance of eye care practitioners in providing holistic low vision care to patients, whilst remaining within their scope of practice and recognising where intervention is needed and how to achieve this.”
LOCSU is an approved CPD provider with the GOC so any LOC who wishes to utilise our CPD resources or request CPD from our account to yours, or to enquire about hosting a peer review event for your LOC – please email info@locsu.co.uk for more details.
