Key LOCSU Activity in 2024/25

2 May 2024

Janice Foster quote

LOCSU is refreshing the 2023/24 forward plan to build upon the progress undertaken in the last 12 months and the initial learning from the LOC listening events and LOC feedback throughout 2023. LOCSU continues listening and learning throughout 2024/25, balancing transformation, development and service provision to ensure maximum support and value for LOCs.

The key activities for 2024/25, shown below, continue the focus of placing LOCs front and centre in everything we do.

  • LOC Chair conference: providing opportunities for training, networking and best practice sharing and opportunity to test a buddy/mentor system.
  • Development of the LOC constitution schedules: funded LOC engagement and legally reviewed, ensuring constitutions and schedules are robust, fit for purpose and provide a clear framework for LOC committee functions/running.
  • Promotion of LOCs, including succession planning materials and assistance.
  • LOC representation on a national stage: continuing to work with sector bodies to influence and inform, by way of the conduit role between national, regional and local.
  • Succession planning materials and LOC role guidance development and implementation.
  • Template documents that can be utilised by multiple LOCs.
  • Pathway refresh and development, including a clinical review of existing pathways.
  • Developing evidence, data and supporting cases for primary eye care services and activity, to assist with ICB and wider stakeholder engagement and report compilation.
  • Support a sector workforce and training review, considering the WOPEC courses, access codes, accreditation needed (or not) for service delivery and future requirements/modelling.
  • Regional Optical Conferences/Regional Roadshows: regional events which will provide training, co-creation and testing of the LOCSU strategy and services, and networking.
  • Next steps in the PEC review/ governance: supporting governance documents and PEC forums to enable co-creation and share learning.
  • Continued professional and legal support as appropriate for LOCs, PECs, and LOCSU.

Janice Foster, LOCSU CEO, said: “LOCSU achieved a lot in 2023/24, and we’re excited to continue that in 2024/25. Our aim remains to be to provide support to LOCs, prioritising their needs and doing what we can to support them and make their lives easier.”
