The More the Merrier: Bring Multiple LOC Members to NOC
2 October 2023
The NOC is fast-approaching and once again it promises to be a high-energy, high-value event for everyone who attends.
LOCSU Non-Executive Board Director Millie Fellows believes that LOCs should send as many delegates as possible in order to get the most out of the varied sessions on offer. As Secretary of Oxfordshire LOC, Millie attended NOC with four fellow committee members in 2022 and they plan to do the same this year.
She says sending more than one delegate should be the norm: “In order to represent your contractors and performers, you need the growth and development opportunities that are on offer at the NOC to become a more effective LOC member.”
Millie adds: “It’s a superb opportunity for the committee to engage, network, and share stories with other LOCs as well as a great bonding session for the committee itself, away from your busy day-to-day lives. This year is going to be bigger and better with a ‘build your own session’ to gain a more tailored experience to cater for your personal interests and your LOC’s needs. It really is a powerful event to attend.”
Alongside all the learning, networking and social opportunities at the NOC, we’ll also be inspired by our after-dinner speaker, Ian Rose. Ian was born with childhood eye cancer (Retinoblastoma) and lost his left eye and most of the sight in his right. Left with a facial disfigurement and having to wear thick glasses; Ian was a victim of bullying and at the age of seven his confidence and self-esteem was low.
His parents introduced him to Judo to boost his confidence and within three months Ian was on the road to becoming a more determined individual with improved self-belief. His talent, commitment, and determination led to a stellar 22-year international career, which saw him win two Paralympic medals, five World Championships medals, and four European Championships. Following his retirement from elite sport, Ian reached the top of the IT sales profession. He now travels the world inspiring teams and individuals to improve personal performance, overcome adversity, set goals, and avoid complacency.
